There are two very different approaches to bass fishing in December. Many anglers turn to finesse presentations and slow retrieves to catch lethargic bass. This can be very effective but it's also mundane when you're struggling through cold temperatures. This Winter, try focusing on baits that get reaction strikes, despite the cold, and you'll be surprised by the results. Winter Transition Bass Fishing! (Lipless, A–Rig, Plus Bonus Topwater!)

Let's go fishing!! Matt is back on the Tennessee River after the Buyer's Guides, and he's ready to catch some fish! Watch as he eliminates water, builds a pattern, and starts catching fish! By the end he's catching them on every cast!

Whenever you've been away from the lake it takes time to locate fish. Today Matt got some clues with the Tactical Micro Rig, but really had to work for the rest of the puzzle pieces. By the end he figured out a great lipless crankbait bite, and that topwater fish was an awesome late–season bonus fish!

Late Winter Transition Fishing! (Targeting Bass When Conditions Change)

Come along for a fun evening on the water! Tim is targeting largemouth during a Winter warming trend. A warm storm blew through the area yesterday, causing the creeks to flow warm, muddy water into the lake. Temperatures are rising but the bass are still lethargic.

This transitional time can be really difficult but Tim turned to downsized baits to catch them consistently. We often rely on a blade bait but this time he went even smaller than normal to get fish to react. Late Winter is a balancing act between air temperatures, water temperatures, and fish behavior. It's easy to speed up your retrieves in anticipation of Spring, but we aren't quite there yet.
