How To Catch Bigger Spring Bass (The Easy Way)

Big bass are just as easy to catch as little bass when you know where to look! Matt explains exactly how these fish move, why they're transitioning, and how to take advantage of their feeding habits along the way. This is the culmination of our videos on early Spring bass fishing, you don't want to miss it!

We've already discussed early spring bass movements along secondary points and structures. We've also looked in depth at a variety of lures and presentations that are effective in Spring. Today we're focusing in on how and when to specifically target schools of bass. Using the tools you've learned you can trigger schools of bass into a feeding frenzy then cycle through a handful of baits (examples are below) to keep them feeding as you work through the numbers in search of that fish of a lifetime.

Below is a breakdown of our confidence baits for this style of fishing. Keep in mind that whether the bass school shallow or deep varies fishery to fishery, so we'll offer our favorite picks for both scenarios. We'll also include the exact equipment that was catching the bass in today's video.

Where Do Bass Go In Spring? (And How To Catch Them)

The bass are on the move! Don't waste time fishing old Winter spots, its time to focus on Spring. In Spring the bass bulk up before the spawn and they do it in very predictable locations. Focus on these key areas and you'll begin catching fish right away!

The key to predicting the bass' movement is to understand why they are moving in the first place. The bass' goal in Spring is to spawn as soon as water and environmental conditions allow. Until that takes place, they feed aggressively along their travel route from the Winter depths to Prespawn feeding locations.

Focus on fishing secondary points and anomalies to maximize your time on the water. The exact structures change from lake to lake but points, ledges, and pieces of hard cover are all key factors. Below you'll find a break down of the baits we focus on during the Spring.

Giant Bass With No Graphs - Bass Fishing In A New Country!

Today we're exploring a brand new lake! We caught a flight down to Lake Baccarac in Sinaloa, Mexico. The lake is famous for big bass but virtually everyone fishes with a guide. We got the chance to break the lake down ourselves without any outside help... the only catch is the electronics on the boat didn't work! Come along as we explore Mexico and catch a bunch of big bass!

The key to any new fishery is to cover water, targeting aggressive fish. If you can find an aggressive bite the learning curve becomes much shorter. Questions about what stage the fish are in, what they're eating, and what sort of structure they're using are answered quickly if you're getting consistent bites. We used a combination of baits with a large presence (swimbaits and topwater) and fast moving baits (squarebills and A-rigs) to catch fish right away.

Below is a break down of the baits we used in the video, shown in order of appearance. Lake Baccarac is an amazing lake and we are very grateful to Pro Bass Adventures - Lake Baccarac for lending us a bass boat to go explore the lake on our own.

How To Catch Bass In Muddy Water

Bass LOVE muddy water! Its not as tough as you think to catch fish when the water is murky. Anglers often lose confidence and begin to struggle when the water turns muddy and starts to rise but its all in their heads. Rising muddy water means more food and more food means aggressive bass. When the muddy conditions arrive this year, you'll be ready!

Don't let water color scare you. Whether your lake is crystal clear or chocolate milk the bass still need to eat. Its all about adaptation and recognizing changing conditions. Don't be afraid to fish aggressively in dark water. Matt's favorite bait in high, muddy water is a spinnerbait. There is no reason to slow down unless the bass won't cooperate. If that happens, we've got a handful of other techniques you can try with confidence.

Below is a breakdown of the baits discussed in the video. All of these are proven producers in stained to muddy water. Don't be afraid to get out there after the next big storm, you might be surprised how many fish are willing to bite.
