The Largest Freshwater Lake In The World: How To Find Fish (And Catch Them)

We're on Lake Superior, home to more than 20 million surface acres of water! We're here to catch fish without any outside help. How do we find bass in such a vast environment? Where do we start looking? Come along for an amazing journey as we explore the largest freshwater lake in the world in search of Smallmouth bass.

The key to breaking down such a massive lake is to forget how big it really is. Start with a map of the entire lake, pretend the lake is only 500 acres, and pick your key spots. No matter how big a pond, lake, or ocean is, they all have the same key "spots". Once you've selected points or coves that look good, its time to zoom in. Its at this point that you begin to see how giant the lake really is. Take each key spot you identified and break it down into smaller and smaller key spots. Now its time to begin fishing! Remember that in a lake this big not every spot will be a home run, stick to your pattern until you find the fish you're searching for.

In today's video the guys fished for 3 days. They found fish each day and were able to dial in the pattern a little better at each stop. While they never found the "motherlode" of big bass spots, they found some awesome fishing and had a great time on a fishery neither angler will ever forget.

GIANT Bass In A Lake Full Of Predators!

We're on a SMALL Lake full of BIG predators! The plan is to target bass but we've got to avoid the musky and pike to make it happen. How do you find bass in a lake like this? We're about to find out! The plan is to target bass that are moving into the shallows as the water warms up. Come along for a fun day full of GIANT Smallmouth!

We began the day by looking shallow. In clear water fisheries your best bet is often to simply look, don't even make a cast. If the water is murky, use a fast moving search bait as your eyes to determine if the fish have moved in. Once we established the fish had moved up, the hunt for the big ones began! The first bite of the day came from a musky, the second from a 5 lb smallmouth!

We spent the day targeting bass in and around cover. Even the big bass are wary to mix with the big pike and musky for fear of becoming a snack. Despite the presence of heavy cover, we focused on 5-6 lb fluorocarbon line to fool the clear water bass into biting. We used a variety of baits to target these fish, catching them on nearly everything we threw. Below is a breakdown of the baits and gear we used to make this day a success!

The baits...

Insane Underwater Fishing Footage!! Dark Sleeper, Finesse Jig, and Ned Craws!

Its hard to argue with Tim's Top 5 when you see these bass absolutely destroying them! Finesse fishing is often overlooked but it can be deadly during the prespawn and spawn for wary bass. Pay close attention as Tim explains his top 5 baits for spawning bass because he's giving you key details to go along with each bait choice.

Many anglers lock into a single bait during the spawn. They throw the same bait to every bed regardless of the fish's natural reaction. This is a huge mistake! Its critical to have a handful of options ready to go and adjust quickly from one to the next until you find the bait each bass is most interested in.

Below is a breakdown of the top baits and equipment Tim discussed and used in the video. We included color recommendations as well to imitate natural baitfish as well as bluegill color schemes.

1) Dark Sleeper Swimbait: http://bit.ly/2TyR1GT

(1/4 oz Wakasagi, Shirauo, or Haze)

2) TRD Ned Craw: http://bit.ly/2U9vx6P
