8 Year Old Kid Catches MASSIVE Fish!!! GIANT Striped Bass!!!

8 year old JD has never caught a Striped Bass until today. He's fishing with this dad, Tim Little, and he's about to get two GIANT bites! Come along for the chaos and the excitement as he tries not to get pulled into the Tennessee River by a massive striper that any adult would be proud to catch!

The striper have moved up to feed below the dam because the flood gates are spilling water after a storm. The waves are big, the water is turbulent, and the big fish are feeding! JD is throwing a Spark Shad swimbait on an underspin to mimic a baitfish that has been flushed through the gates from the lake above. Its amazing the fish can even find the bait in these conditions but they do!

Fighting a big striped bass is always a work out but battling one in the midst of raging current would exhaust the strongest adult. JD did a great job of battling the beast in brutal conditions! Below you'll find links to the exact gear JD was using as well as the rod and reel combos the adults use when its our turn to battle these beasts. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Catching GIANT Striped Bass in a NEW Lake!

Come along as Matt and Tim chase big striper! They're exploring new water in search of these big predatory fish and it doesn't take long to find them! The guys start out with swimbaits and A-rigs but quickly realize the fish have gone deep. A quick switch to a spoon is all it takes to get the big ones biting!

The key tonight was finding lures that could be fished effectively in deep water. Tim put time into the A-Rig (A proven producer for big striped bass) but the combination of deep water (30-45 feet) and strong current was too much for the rig. A heavy spoon (1 3/4 oz) in bold colors proved to be the best option. Even in the current we were able to hop the spoons as we back drifted. We had a very short bite window before the river currents slowed but we connected with two beautiful Striper before it was over.

We've done quite a few videos on spoon for bass and striper in the past. Matt typically leans toward a jigging spoon while Tim prefers a flutter spoon. Both styles are a must-have in an angler's arsenal and worth learning how to fish effectively. If you've missed our previous videos on the subject you can see them here...

Below is a breakdown of the baits and equipment the guys were using this evening. We've even included a link to the NET they SHOULD HAVE brought with them to land these big fish with ease. All of the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each.

Lake Cumberland - Catching Fish In A New Lake

How do you find fish in a new lake? Where do you look and how do you target them? Come along with Matt for a day on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. With no outside information and little more than a map to guide the way, he covers water and locates feeding bass.

Whether you're in the PNW, the Midwest, or deep in the South, bass all behave the same way. Once you understand their feeding habits and basic movements they become highly predictable. Don't let a new fishery frighten you, its not that hard to find fish.

During the cold months we typically start by exploring the backs of deep pockets and creeks. If you can locate baitfish with your electronics you're already off to a great start! Pay attention to the depth of those baitfish and repeat the process in a different location until you find baitfish with bass around them.

Once you've located fish it simply comes down to confidence. Pull out your favorite lures, those baits you've got the most confidence in, and begin targeting those bass. If you don't have confidence baits look below, you'll find a break down of the lures and gear Matt had the confidence to use on his first visit to Cumberland.

How To Catch Striped Bass

From Topwater to Swimbaits, we show you how to target big striped bass! If you've ever wanted to catch Striper on artificial lures, this information will help you be more successful. Come along for an exciting day on the water!

We begin throwing big swimbaits in the early morning hours. As the day unfolds we transition to a combination of swimbaits, topwater both big and small, and swim jigs. This combination allowed us to maximize our time on the water, increase or shot a big bites, without catching too many smaller fish.

Traditional striper fishing involves cut bait, rattle traps, and small topwater lures. These are all incredibly effective ways to catch striped bass, but they're not great ways to consistently TARGET Big Striped Bass. We use a combination of swimbaits and topwater to eliminate the smaller bites and more effectively target the big bass that we're searching for.
